We would like to invite you to join us at the nineth Anglian Water Fly Fishing Challenge on 10th September 2010 at Rutland Water in aid of the charity WaterAid. WaterAid is the UK’s only major charity that is dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, and hygiene education, to the world’s poorest people in the developing world. Over the last 8 years this event has raised over £120,000 for WaterAid which will have helped over 10,000 people. For more information about the charity please visit the web site at www.wateraid.org.uk.
You can get a flavour for the event and other useful information by visiting the event web site at www.awwaffic.org. The event is open to experienced anglers and novice 1st time anglers alike. Free tuition and/or free loan of tackle, for the duration of the day, will be available to a limited number of participants on a first come first served basis. Please indicate your requirements using the attached Application Form should you wish to take advantage of this. The closing date for entries this year is the 8th Aug. Please note that disabled fishing facilities are available at Rutland Water. Please contact the fishing lodge for details.
As you may be aware, Rutland Water is generally regarded as the country’s premier trout fishery and as such will provide a fitting venue for such an event. I have attached a link for your information: www.anglianwaterleisure.co.uk
The day will have a typical competition format. Fishing starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm. The winning team will be awarded the Anglian Water WaterAid Fly Fishing Challenge Shield plus there are individual trophies for both experienced and novice anglers.
After the fishing there will be a meal served in
the ‘Waters Edge Café Bar’ along with the prize presentation. There will also
be the chance to win some great raffle prizes and a chance to pick up some
fantastic
bargains at the auction.
Discounted Beginner Courses – If you are a beginner or first time fly angler you may wish to take advantage of these very popular courses run by Anglian Water Fisheries. These excellent courses run by qualified instructors normally cost around £50 pounds for the day, but provided you have entered a team in the challenge you get a 10% discount. Once you have received confirmation of your team entry you can contact the respective lodges to arrange your day. Places on these courses are limited and will be provided on a first come first served basis so please book early.
The Entry Fee has been held for yet another year at £275 for a team of two persons or £400 for a team of four. Please apply using the attached Application Form. You may enter more than one Team, but please use one form per Team. As well as a donation to WaterAid, the entry fee covers boat and tackle hire, fishing permits, entry gift, tuition, entry to the competition and the evening meal.
Additional options on the application form this year include;
§ Pre-event tuition evening (9th Sept, 6-7:30 pm) – free of charge to all entered teams. Ideal if your team is planning to stop over at one of the impressive Hotels around Rutland (see Web Site for affiliated hotels).
§ Gillie services – provided by volunteers from local club Rutland Water Fly Fishers giving your team a definite advantage, providing ‘on the boat’ tuition helping your team find those fish. Please note that gillie services will be initially reserved for novices.
§ Practice Day Boats - We have also arranged a discount on boats (full day boat for the price of a half day) on the practice day for entered teams.
Donations/Sponsorship – if you are not able to enter a team and you would like to support the event please complete the relevant section of the application form. All donations will go direct to WaterAid. If your company is interested in sponsoring the event then please visit the web site at www.awwaffic.org to see a complete list of sponsored trophies and other items.
Application Forms and Fees should be sent to me by 8th Aug 2010. The popularity of the event is growing so please enter early to avoid disappointment, as places are limited. Should you have any further queries please email me at cevans@anglianwater.co.uk. Places can only be guaranteed when payment has been received at the address on the application form.
I hope that you will take on this Challenge, helping us make a difference to the lives of thousands of the poorest people in the developing world, whilst having a great day out with your colleagues, business associates or friends in the beautiful surroundings of Rutland Water.
Yours sincerely
