Southern Waters Winning Team Report courtesy of Doug Blackford
The morning of the 24th of June started like the previous
day, bright sunshine and no breeze so over breakfast the talk was will anyone
catch a fish. By the time we reached the lodge clouds were starting to build not
long after thunder and lightening and heavy rain and the wind. Talk then was are
we going to go out. When we finally left the safety of the harbour both our
boats made for the top end of the South arm Rob and James heading for the Bunds
and Hideaway Bay, Dave and myself drifting from Gibbet Gorse into Manton Bay.
For the first two hours not a fish was seen then around midday Rob phoned to say
they had found some fish and had caught two. Both fish coming to a Cats Whisker
on a slow sinking line. Dave positioned our boat on the same drift which was
from near to Browns Island in towards Manton Bay. Dave managed to catch one on
that drift using the same fly and line. unfortunately that was to be the only
fish to come to our boat. At the end of the day and although I didn't manage to
catch anything we had a great day and superb result. Rob Barden 5 fish James
Garrett 2 fish Dave Wickens 1 fish and Doug Blackford 0 fish. Our thanks goes to
every one who made the event a great success and we hope to return next year.
